About customer
NexusDB Pty Ltd is the vendor of the NexusDB, relational database management system for the Delphi, C++ Builder, and .NET programming languages.

The vendor of the NexusDB relational database management system for the Delphi, C++ Builder, and .NET programming languages, was looking for a software development company with expertise in developing ODBC drivers.

The database vendor already had an inhouse developed ODBC driver, but it was built long ago and needed to be significantly updated to be compatible with the latest versions of third-part tools that supported the ODBC interface.

“NexusDB already had an inhouse developed ODBC driver, however it was developed years ago by somebody no longer in the company, and over time the list of incompatibilities and missing features grew.“

The decision to initiate a partnership was taken upon reviewing their existing driver and measuring the effort they would need to put in to update the driver. The company estimated that the time period for the completion of such a project would be at least 7 months.

“Reviewing our existing driver, it became apparent that to achieve the high quality result we desired from an update would require developing a new version from scratch. However this would consume a fair bit of our development resources, which we would rather use on the database itself. Thus we went looking for a vendor to partner with.“

The company decided among several ODBC driver vendors present in the market.

“We had a look at potential partners, and Devart stood out as well known and well regarded, making it an easy choice for us.“

It should be noted though that NexusDB already had an ongoing positive experience of cooperating with Devart - we had incorporated NexusDB data provider in our data access components for Delphi (UniDAC).

ODBC drivers are widely used by anyone who has to access data in SQL or NoSQL data stores using database management tools, BI & analytics software, office software suites, and programming languages. The NexusDB representative says that Devart ODBC driver improved the day-to-day activities of users of your database system and they expect new exciting features down the road.

“Customers are happy that their ODBC driver now conforms to standards….“

NexusDB reports that partnering with Devart has resulted in an excellent data connectivity product that is flexible and works seamlessly even with those tools that do not strictly follow the ODBC standard. The testing of Devart ODBC driver for NexusDB conducted by the NexusDB developers has shown remarkable results.

“Our testing has shown speed to be no concern compared to other connection methods. We like that there are built-in workarounds for tools that do not follow the ODBC standards, support for 32 and 64 bit systems, and support for both Embedded and Remote NexusDB servers.“

Determining the best approach to address customers’ data connectivity requirements is a no easy task for a database vendor, but as experience has shown, partnering with a third-party software vendor specializing in data connectivity solutions, such as Devart, ensures compatibility with the industry connectivity standards - NexusDB customers can now “talk” to their database server from a host of tools. As the NexusDB representative notes,

“Definitely, working with Devart was painless and allowed us to concentrate on our core business, while getting a first rate product into the market place to assist our customers’ needs.“
